Kalinn lost herself to the music at a young age. She began teaching herself piano at the age of 10 and expanded her musical knowledge and skills by playing the flute in middle school. High school was a musical turning point; switching from flute to clarinet to saxophone to percussion and even guitar and bass guitar while expanding her love and knowledge of the piano. Kalinn attended Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota on a partial music scholarship where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Business. During her time at SMU she participated in concert band, jazz band, variety shows, pit orchestra and was musical director for many theatre productions. She studied classical piano with world renowned pianist Ned Kirk and jazz piano with professor Eric Heukeshoven as well theory and arranging courses. She decided to follow in her mother’s footsteps and began teaching piano at the age of 16 and has been teaching ever since. It brings such joy to her heart to see young children experiencing music for the first time and helping older students push past their boundaries and reach new levels. There is no greater happiness than watching them perfect their songs! Kalinn is a fun, patient and well-rounded teacher who hopes to cultivate a lifelong love for music and build valuable skills that are transferable to many aspects of life.
