Sophie is a proficient and versatile pianist and teacher, who grew up with a pianist mother. She started taking lessons from her mother at age of 2 and has nurtured a love and passion for music ever since. She studied under Dr. Artemis Bedros, master teacher at Claremont School of Music during high school, and continued to study piano under Professor MaryLou Wielenga at Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA. She began teaching piano at her mother’s studio in high school and continued to give private lessons in college as well. Sophie’s teaching method focuses on bringing the student’s own musicality while mastering appropriate techniques and interpretation skills. As she understands the tremendous benefit and joy of music in her life, she tries her best to motivate her students and cultivate their talent, passion, and interest in music. As a performer, Sophie participated in numerous recitals as a soloist since she was young and as an accompanist for various vocalists and instrumentalists during college. She most recently held a successful solo senior recital in 2015 including works of Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and Mozart. She won Cherokee symphony’s young artist competition in 2014, where she performed Schumann’s piano concerto in A minor, Op. 54, and also won 2nd place in Grant Piano Competition in 2013.
